Sarah E. Doan (she/her/hers) is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) and a National Certified Counselor (NCC) with nearly a decade of experience in therapy work. She views therapy as a calling as opposed to a career and knew that she would be a therapist from a young age. To pursue this calling, she completed a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology at the University of South Florida and completed a Master’s at Argosy University Sarasota in the field of Clinical Mental Health Counseling. She completed specialized coursework in treating complex trauma, grief and group specialized therapies, before working in community and private practice from 2012 to now.
Sarah believes that therapy is highly personalized and customized to each individual and has a variety of therapeutic techniques that she has had success with treating individuals of all ages and walks of life. “Hope, compassion, knowledge and acceptance are the foundation of all of my relationships with clients and I believe that these ingredients help me care for others and help show them a way back to their authentic self,” she states, in regards to how she approaches therapy. She has been using art mediums, such as writing, singing, dancing, painting, embroidery and drawing, to open herself up to experiencing more wonder in the world and will frequently share how to do this with clients, if they are interested, as part of finding and expressing the truest parts of themselves, as she feels it has done for her.
Sarah has worked with at risk populations, including substance and non-substance recovery/addiction, persistent mental health disorders and homelessness. She also has experience working with veterans, marginalized relationships/lifestyles, codependency, chronic illness and chronic pain, personality disorders, PTSD, childhood trauma, gender identity, LGBTQIA+, HIV/AIDS, bipolar disorders and schizophrenia. She has worked in residential mental and substance dependence facilities, as well as outpatient facilities throughout her career.
Sarah is a native Floridian, but prefers vacations in cold weather. She enjoys reading, gaming, stargazing and writing to help her with self care. Sarah is also a reiki master and uses her training to help herself and others with mindfulness training, meditation and chakra healing. She considers herself a person who is deeply scientific, as much as she is spiritual.
